This is an informational video about the CRISPR Cas9 system and how it can edit genes. In class we discussed many things that the video covers such as the functions of Guide RNA and Cas9. Something I found that was interesting in the video was that scientists are able to attach fluorescent proteins to the system. By attaching fluorescent proteins, scientists can visualize the 3D make-up of the genome. Scientists can also “paint” a chromosome with the fluorescent proteins and track it’s position in the nucleus. The video does a great job of providing a visual of the CRISPR Cas9 system and how it works.

This article is about how scientists used CRISPR to undo a heart condition that effects young athletes . The way the did the experiment was they got woman eggs and a man sperm who had the disease and short after the sperm was injected they took out the gene mutation and the results were really good. When the cells started to duplicate a large number of the cells didn’t have the disease with in them which was good

This New York Times article is about a man in China that lost his beloved cat garlic. Because Garlic was the last generation his owner decided to clone garlic. After an expensive bill and 7 months later China announced their very first cloned cat. Because China has a thriving pet market worth billions they are considering turning animal cloning into another viable market.
This article informs the reader about how two monkeys were cloned in China. Their genetic material was identical which was the main reason for their significance. Scientists now would be able to tweak genes the monkeys have linked to human diseases and then monitor the monkeys biology. This could help scientists to discover the genes that go wrong in disease and find ways to correct them.
